Supporting BCEC Online: From Rebuild to Day-to-Day Care

July 19, 2026

All projects

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre sits at the heart of South Bank. It is one of Queensland’s major gathering places for conferences, exhibitions, performances and community events. Behind that public-facing site is a practical need: the website has to stay reliable, current and useful for organisers and visitors alike.

That is the work we do with BCEC at Cube Digital.

Guiding the move to the current site

Our work with BCEC began with a full transition. The Centre needed to reproduce its website in a new hosting environment and bring it into its current format. We guided that process from planning through launch: mapping what needed to carry across, rebuilding the site, and moving it live with as little disruption as possible. The goal was not a flashy rebuild for its own sake. It was a site that could keep pace with a busy venue — events changing constantly, visitor information that has to be accurate, and a team that needed a platform they could work with day after day.

Ongoing support after launch

Once the site was live, the relationship did not stop at handover. We continue to support BCEC with:

  • day-to-day upkeep
  • security-focused upgrades and updates
  • backups
  • special projects as they arise
  • custom development when a standard feature is not enough

A venue website is never “finished”. Events are added, pages change, systems need to talk to each other, and security work has to keep moving. Our role is to keep that running quietly in the background so the BCEC team can focus on the Centre itself.

Custom work that visitors actually use

Some of the most visible parts of the site are custom.

The BCEC Art Collection

BCEC holds a significant art collection throughout the Centre, including works that trace back to Expo ’88. We built a custom solution for the BCEC Art Collection, including a QR code system for individual artworks in the building. Visitors can scan a code beside a work and go straight to its details. The same collection is available to explore online. That project sits at the intersection of the venue’s public spaces and its website: the art is in the building, and the story of each piece is only a scan away.

Events from the booking system

We also help with the dynamic integration that pulls events from BCEC’s booking management system onto the website. That is how upcoming public events stay current on the What’s on page without someone having to re-enter every listing by hand.

Live car park availability

For visitors arriving by car, the site shows live parking counters so people can see how many spaces are available in each car park before they arrive. That information lives on the Visitors pages alongside directions and access details. It is a small feature on the page, but it is the kind of detail that makes a large venue easier to use.

A working partnership

Our work with BCEC is a mix of foundation and follow-through. We helped move the site into its current form. We keep it maintained, updated and backed up. And when the Centre needs something specific — an art exhibition experience, a booking feed, live parking data, or another custom plugin — we build it to fit the way the venue actually operates. If you are looking after a site that has to stay live, stay current and connect to other systems, that is the kind of work we do.
