Souths Sports Club is on Mortimer Road in Acacia Ridge. It is the local for a meal, a function, a bit of gaming, and whatever is on that week. Live acts, weekly events, a bistro and a bar. Membership is a dollar for life, which tells you the club is there for the suburb, not for a hard sell. The public site already told that story. It just lived on Squarespace, and the team needed it in WordPress.
This was a clone, not a redesign. Members and guests should land on a site they already recognise. The staff should be able to update it the same way they update their other WordPress sites, without learning a second system.
We moved the site across and rebuilt it in WordPress so the pages, menus and pictures lined up with what people were used to. What’s on, bar and dining, functions, gaming, memberships, history and contact. Opening hours, the phone number, the address. The line they use on the door: where good friends meet.
What did not drop straight in
Squarespace layouts do not unpack neatly into WordPress. A few sections needed extra care. The what’s on posters, the nested menus, and the membership signup were the fiddly ones. Event artwork had to stay sharp, and the menus had to stay easy to change when the week’s entertainment moved. We rebuilt those pieces so they still looked like the club, and so the team could swap a poster or a menu item without calling a developer.
What they have now is the same club online, on WordPress. Familiar for anyone walking in off Mortimer Road. Easier to look after for the people who run it.
