Brisbane Racing Club runs Eagle Farm and Doomben. The public site is the raceday calendar, the memberships, the news, the partners, and the promotions that sell a Saturday. For years that site lived on a bespoke Ektron system, and the shop lived somewhere else entirely.
Ektron had been extended until it was hard to hold. Extra subdomains, add-ons, and a boutique setup that only a few people could safely change. The shop, on its own WordPress and WooCommerce install, had more than 6,000 orders and customers, plus the payment systems that go with a real store. Two systems, two logins, and a lot of risk if either one was left behind.
We moved the main site to WordPress and kept the racing look. Racedays, events, membership details, news, partners and the promotional sections were rebuilt so a visitor would still recognise the club. Then we brought the shop into the same installation. Merchandise, memberships and the related sales now sit in one WooCommerce store, not on a separate address.
The raceday packages were the hard part
Showing a package and taking a booking is a large piece of this site. Dates, venues, hospitality options and the path from “what’s on” to a paid ticket all had to match what people already used. That meant mapping the old logic, testing the edge cases, and checking the journey still felt smooth. It was a substantial part of the job, and it had to be right before anything else went live.
What BRC has now is one WordPress site. The promotional racing site and the shop, under one roof, with the history of the store intact.
